This issue of “Codex Manuscriptus” (No. 6) presents the first publication of Victor Hugo’s letters to his publishers. Furthermore, it utilizes archival documents to elucidate the publication history of P. Muratov’s essay “A Journey to Apulia” in Italy and E. Zamyatin’s book on H.G. Wells. The relationships between the Moscow and Leningrad branches of the State Publishing House (GIZ) and the operations of the “World Literature” publishing house are reconstructed based on archival sources. The issue also includes the first publication of a translation of Claude Simon’s novel “The Invitation” from the archives of the "Foreign literature" (“Inostrannaya Literatura”) journal. This volume is intended for specialists in philology, history, and cultural studies, as well as for a broad spectrum of readers with an interest in the history of literature and publishing.
